Wordless Wednesday: German Wine Country

Though most people tend to think of beer when they think of Germany, the country is quite famous for its wines as well.  Right now the harvest is on, and in Rheinland-Pfalz you can get a glass of the new wine known as “Federweisser” at stands around most towns.  It is the perfect time for a glass raised high and a celebration of German wine culture.  Cheers!

Federweisser, or new wine, is quite a treat in season. Be careful if you buy it though: the cap won’t be closed if it is the real thing! Photo (cc) flickr user elmada

It’s interesting to read your comments about German wine. I am an Expat living in the Piemonte region of Italy which is world famous for it’s wines like Barolo, Barbaresco etc.
However I’ve noticed over the last few years beer has become increasingly popular especially with the younger generation and you can now find several micro breweries producing excellent beer in this area.

I´m, although I´m not living there anymore, from Rheinland-Pfalz myself (Nahetal) and I remember Federweisser. We used to mix it with Coca-Cola, so you do not get drunk to quick.
