German government lines up paintball ban
Following the infamous Winnenden school massacre on March 11, 2009, in which a 17-year-old shot dead 15 people in the southwestern town in Germany, before killing himself, the German government has agreed to tighten gun laws. According to media reports, random checks for gun owners will be implemented and paintball and laser tag will be banned.
This has lead to a debate erupting in the paintball and laser tag scene. Paintball is a sport in which players use air guns and rifles to shoot small paint pellets at opponents; whilst in laser tag, players wear vests with sensors and shoot at each other with an infrared-emitting gun.
“They simulate killing,” the deputy head of the conservative Christian Union parliamentary group, Wolfgang Bosbach, told the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung.
“Paintball is immoral. It will no longer be allowed in the future,” said Dieter Wiefelspütz, the SPD’s spokesperson for home affairs in the Bundestag. “There’s a risk that these so-called games will play down the danger of violence and that it will erode barriers to committing violence.”
Meanwhile, Claudia Roth, the chairwoman of the Green Party, described the proposed tightening of weapons laws to SPIEGEL ONLINE as a “courage-less concession to the gun lobby.” Instead of banning large caliber guns in general, the coalition government has only managed to agree on a token ban on paintball.” The German media has reported that lawmakers are considering preventing people under the age of 18 from shooting high-caliber guns at target practice venues.
A political agreement is expected next week. Legislation would be required to be introduced by the end of May so that it could be voted on in both of Germany’s federal legislative chambers before the summer break in July.

I fail to see the logic. A massacre happened when a young man used a semi-automatic pistol, but rather than restricting these weapons or doing something similar, the German Government propose stopping people using paintball and laser guns which can’t kill anyone?
How pathetic: Persecuting a law abiding minority enjoying a hobby rather than addressing the real issue.

I agree with the above statement. Paintball is a positive sport just like any other sport out there. Banning the sport would even further hurt Germany because they are taking a positive hobby and taking it away. I agree gun control should be in affect but paintball uses markers not guns. Paintball being “Immoral” shows how naive people really are when it comes to this sport.

This is ridiculous. You think that banning paintball and laser tag is going to solve the problem? Paintball and laser tag are not the problem anyway. People are the ones who act voilent. If you are smart then you should know the difference between right and wrong. Banning two sports that people love isn’t going to solve the problem. I mean it is only going to make a lot of people angry. Also, even though they do simulate killing, they are also two of the safest sports ever.

Hate to tell everyone this but it is banned…. But this pisses me off i Got kicked off my team because of the this new age rule I can’t even play on my military base. But the new rule is anyone under the age of 18 is banned from playing with up to a 5000 euro fine if caught….. But it might change because several other countries are getting PO’d at the new age rule preventing alot of there teams from playing so it might change.
